Food Saftey at Work

Food Safety at Work

It’s important when working at a facility that produces food to follow a few food rules. Not only will these simple requirements help me to be a safe and healthy employee in the workplace, but the skills can also be used throughout the rest of my life. A couple of steps I take before I start my shift are as follows:

- Bathe daily: clean hair, clean face
- Clean fingernails with no nail polish
- Proper shoes and uniform
- Hair tied back and pulled away from face
- No jewelry
- hands thoroughly washed before starting shift

While on the job I keep it in my best interest to be aware of my own and others general safety and cleanliness.

- Washing my hands after touching money, changing garbage bags, and cleaning them thoroughly before touching food
- When scooping fries into carton, avoiding hand contact
- Making sure fries are fresh and not over salted
- Coughing or sneezing into my elbow and as far away from food, then washing hands
- Mopping and sweeping the floor regularly
- Having a general awareness of my surroundings
- Be very cautious around the grill, the deep fryer and with hot beverages.
- Clear away any garbage and clutter from my work station (i.e. coffee filters, old cups, spills, napkins)
